Match Report:

The Train's encounter against Old Windsor FC Reserves was our 18th fixture of the 2024/25 season in the East Berkshire Football League, with the team competing in the Ascot & Fielden Charity Cup. This was our third encounter against Old Windsor this season, all in cup competition.

The team found themselves 1-0 down after 8 minutes when a ball over the top of our defensive line, on a thick and muddy pitch, held up perfectly for a Windsor attack to slot home a one-on-one to give the hosts a lead. On the stroke of the 15th minute mark the game moved to 2-0 when a pair of Windsor attackers linked up after the hosts won a header in midfield, which lead to a strike that was deflected to the back post after a hand by Robert Austin, and in.

The Train did wake up and our best period of play happened in the final 25 minutes of the first-half, with Shay Edwards missing two key chances to bring a goal back, though on the half-hour mark there was a breakthrough. Interplay on the left between Mitchell Saunders and Phil Newport led to the ball finding the feet of Jon Watkins at the edge of the penalty area on the left of the penalty area, with Watkins curling a lovely effort into the far post!

Windsor ran away in the game in the second-half when a through ball managed to bobble over several Hype players, allowing the Windsor skipper a simple finish on his left when one-on-one, whilst a smash at goal from 4-yards-out after Josh Robertson headed away a long throw, drew some distance between the teams. Chasing a goal ourselves, Windsor expertly headed a Newport header off the line in added time, in what was a deserved win for Windsor, and a day for us to move on from after some injuries and knocks.

Next up, The Train host Taplow United Swans in the semi-finals of the Slough Town Junior Cup on Saturday 8th February 2025.
