Match Report:

The Train's encounter against Caversham United was our 23rd fixture of the 2024/25 season in the East Berkshire Football League, with the team competing in EBFL's Division One. This was the reversal of the league encounter just 2 weeks prior, with Hype Train running out 3-0 winners due to a Phil Newport hat-trick on the day.

The lone goal of the first-half in a probing encounter from both sides arrived in the 25th minute of the game, when a deep cross was dropped in goal, allowing former Hype Train forward, Leon Mannion, a tap in on his debut.

In the second-half, the team improved and in the 78th minute of the game were awarded a penalty when a Caversham player defended Lucas Coe's cross with his hand. Stepping up to bury the spot kick was Mitchell Saunders, to draw the game level.

Having seized the advantage in the game, we ultimately made two costly mistakes that handed the visitors the win, first when we were robbed of possession on the left, allowing Caversham to net from close range on the third time of asking after blocks from Callum Gibbons and Anwar Mmanga. The 3rd game sealing goal came when another loose pass allowed Mannion to run to the byline on the counter, cutting the ball back for another easy finish.

Next up, The Train travel to Slough Heating FC Reserves in EBFL Division One at The Polish Club in Slough on Saturday 15th March 2025.
