Match Report: Hype Train FC

Date: Saturday 11th January 2025

Competition: EBFL Division One (Game 7)

Opposition: Slough Heating FC Reserves

Location: Waingels College, Woodley, Reading, RG5 4RF

Final Score: Hype Train FC 2-6 Slough Heating FC Reserves

Match Report:

The Train's encounter against Slough Heating was our 15th fixture of the 2024/25 season in the East Berkshire Football League, with the team competing in EBFL's Division One to start the new year. This was our second encounter against Slough, having lost 2-0 in the first round of the EBFL Presidents Cup last year.

The team took the lead after 6 minutes when Mitchell Saunders played through Padraig Gorman, who cut in and finished calmly, but were 2-1 down in a matter of minutes due to a brace of set-piece goals, including a penalty. A giveaway at the back would seal a 3-1 lead heading into half-time, before a lob attempt made the score 4-1.

During the 61st minute of the game, Kie Longmate's long ball forward was flicked towards Slough's goal and a miss kick by their goalkeeper allowed Obeydah Abdulwahab to capitalise, netting his first goal for the club with a lofted finish past a final defending attempting to block the effort. A brace of quick-fire late goals would seal the points for the visitors, who ended the game with 10 players when one of their central defenders was shown a straight red card after a horror tackle on Ashley Rockall with 5 minutes left to play.

Next up, The Train visit Real Saracens FC in EBFL Division One on Saturday 18th January 2024.
