Match Report:

The Train's encounter against Bracknell Aces was our 24th fixture of the 2024/25 season in the East Berkshire Football League, with the team competing in EBFL's Division One. This was the reversal of the league encounter in February, with The Train running out 7-4 winners on home soil at Waingels College.

In a close fought first-half, both teams were probing with several chances, with the best chances for the train coming from several dangerous corners from Lucas Coe that just nearly a touch from a player in red. Bracknell though did seize the advantage of the game just before half-time when a switch of play from left to right eventually saw the ball cut back to their Forward at the edge of the box - the Aces player shot low and the ball rolled over Robert Austin's foot in goal and into the net for a 1-0 lead at the break.

In the second-half, The Train ran out of steam as Aces doubled their lead after a clearance from Eme Boateng fell invitingly for an Aces winger to lash home from close range, before the referee unbelievably gave a penalty to the hosts when Manny Cudjoe chested the ball, with the resulting spot kick buried to the bottom right of the goal.

With 15 minutes left to play, the Aces finalised the scoring when a dangerous corner looped all the way in off the back post - a top delivery that left us with no chance.

The referee's game went from bad to worse when he sent off an Aces midfielder in the dying minutes of the game for a stray foot hitting the crown jewels of Obeydah Abdulwahab on the centre circle - though the collision wasn't done deliberately and wasn't nasty or vicious enough to deem a red card.

Well done to Bracknell Aces on the victory, fully deserved on the day!

Next up, The Train host HKRG United in EBFL Division One at Waingels College in Reading on Saturday 22nd March 2025.
