Player of the Month - Chris Marshall:

Our Player of the Month award for September 2021 is our fourth monthly award given out, with Chris Marshall winning the player vote at the club after a great month at the club - winning the accolade for the first time and taking the award from Phil Newport who was the last recicipient in May 2021.

The month of September began with the team's biggest competitive win to date, with a 12-1 away from home against RG6 FC in Reading & Sunday District League Division 4 on 5th September. Marshall played the full 90 minutes and had a solid game in central midfield, with the Number 13 assisting the team's 9th goal for Leon Mannion.

The team were given a Bye Week the following weekend on 12th September, with the team hosting fellow RSSL founders, Caversham United, in a friendly on home soil. Marshall played in central midfield again as the team lead 3 times in a back-and-forth 3-3 draw.

Sunday 19th September saw the team win our first-ever RDSL home game, with the team beating Core FC 6-1 at Calcot Recreation Ground, with Marshall starting the game in central defence and putting in another stellar shift for the team.

The team's final game of September saw the team host BAS FC Allstars at home in the first round of the Berks & Bucks FA Sunday Trophy. The team won the game 3-0 thanks to a well-disciplined defensive performance, with Marshall picking up the Man of the Match award for a combative performance that typified the team's solid performance.

Club Chairman, Sam Austin, presented Marshall with the award (pictured above) after the team's first Friday night fixture against Wokingham on 1st October 2021.

Thoughts from Club Secretary, Robert Austin:

"The team's first month of the season only saw us compete on Sunday's due to a delay in the start of our Saturday League season, meaning we could pool all of our efforts on making sure we started the season strongly.

A strong start was accomplished, with a couple of dominating wins in the league and a very good performance in the County Cup. Chris won the player vote and was the best player of the month for his overall contribution and level of consistency in each and every game, which is a strong acclaim given that we scored a lot of goals and barely conceded.

Chris is a dependable, long-term member of the team and was fully deserving of our Player of the Month award, and I'm sure that as our season progresses, Chris will continue to play an important role for the team as we look to win our first trophies as a club."
